I had an opportunity this week to both attend AND exhibit at the Winston-Salem Marriott hotel for the Winter Dinner of the NCHIMSS chapter dinner and presentations. What a great way of meeting some of the sharpest minds in healthcare security.
Presenting was David Finn, CISA, CISM, CRISC and the Health Information Technology Officer for Symantec. David had some great insight into the evolution of security risks in healthcare today. And, what these risks will look like as we move further down the timeline. Attacks against healthcare data are on the rise and it’s really not a matter of “if” will happen, but more a matter of “when”. Risk mitigation is the key here and having an understanding that 100% protection of data breach is simply impossible for a number of reasons….including the exploding number of data access points and data sharing methods taking place today.
Additional panelists included Cathie Brown, Joe Nartowicz and Mission Health’s own Jim Kelly. All great panelists with great challenges on their plates.
