Wow – back to back weeks of some really awesome networking with industry peers last night at the SCHIMSS Chapter Winter Dinner Event. Held at the beautiful SC State Museum in Columbia SC I was overwhelmed by the warmth and outreach of many of the attendees at the event.
On tap for the night was a presentation by Ms. Helga Rippen, President and CEO of Health Sciences of South Carolina. With more degrees and certifications than pages in a dictionary (her studious accomplishments are pretty hard for anyone to match – MD, Phd, Clinical Professor, Research Fellow, and on it goes), Ms. Rippen gave the audience a glimpse into the vast complexity of the healthcare system today and its many challenges in getting it to all work.
However, she also pointed out the amazing way in which healthcare providers in Columbia and South Carolina have come together to really “move the needle” when it comes to tackling diabetes and obesity within the greater population. No easy task especially given the #2 ranking in the USA for people in the 12-17 age group with obesity. Big challenge – but with collaboration – they are making progress.
Good people, good information and plenty of opportunities for networking. I will be back!
